When I leveled up after a match instead of going from 44 to 45, I went from 44 to 50.
EDIT: It turns out I'm still just rank 45, with the correct amount of XP also. So it's just a UI glitch?

It's just one more weird glitch in unity.
If other players will report this glitch, then i will look closer.
In any case it can't break anything. Progression window only visualizes your progress. It doesn't unlock anything.
